Set up your LilBub

The normal setup path begins in the LilBub Android companion. Bluetooth carries pairing and setup actions, so you do not need to flash Wi-Fi credentials or connect a serial cable.

The Android companion is currently an alpha artifact rather than a public app store download. Use the build supplied for your test device. The current limitations page records the evidence boundary for this release.

  1. Power on LilBub and keep the phone close.
  2. On LilBub, open Settings, choose Pair device, then choose Connect phone app.
  3. In the Android companion, choose Adopt a LilBub, then Find my LilBub.
  4. Select the LilBub that is showing the phone-pairing screen.
  5. Compare the short confirmation code on both screens and choose Allow on LilBub.

Pairing succeeds only after the device approves the phone. Android does not need a separate operating-system Bluetooth bonding prompt.

When pairing finishes, the companion shows the Bub in your collection. You can choose Use nearby only immediately; this path needs no account or Internet connection.

Cloud linking is recommended for remote management, synchronization, web Face Studio sessions, integrations, and a direct device route. It remains optional.

  1. Choose Continue setup after nearby pairing.
  2. Under Add Wi-Fi over Bluetooth, enter the network name and password. The companion sends the profile through the approved nearby session.
  3. Choose Link signed-in account. Sign in when asked; setup returns to the same Bub afterward.
  4. Wait for Your LilBub is cloud linked. Nearby control remains available even when cloud services are later disabled.
  5. Choose Personalize face to reach the first visible result.

The cloud-link step creates the account and device proofs, provisions the device’s cloud identity, enables cloud services, and waits for LilBub to confirm the result.

Nearby setup is working when:

  • the companion lists the Bub in My collection;
  • Nearby connection reports a Bluetooth route; and
  • face and device controls respond while the phone is close.

Cloud setup is working when the finish-setup panel confirms the link and the Bub later appears online in MyBubs. A saved Wi-Fi profile by itself does not prove that the cloud identity completed.

Symptom What to do
No LilBub appears in the scan Keep the pairing screen open, move the phone closer, check Android Bluetooth permission, and search again
The codes differ Cancel on both screens and restart pairing; do not approve a mismatched code
Wi-Fi cannot be saved Reconnect nearby, confirm the network name and password, and retry
Sign-in interrupts setup Finish authentication; the companion returns to the cloud-setup view
Cloud linking times out Keep the phone nearby, confirm the saved Wi-Fi can reach the Internet, then retry Link signed-in account
You do not want cloud services Choose Use nearby only; pairing and local faces remain available

For transport details and less common connection models, read Cloud connectivity. Flash-time and serial provisioning belong to development or recovery workflows in Serial and DeviceControl, not ordinary owner setup.
